Industry and Academia Collaboration

The Edge Intelligence and Data Analytics Group is committed to shaping the future by serving as a premier global hub for advancing and disseminating cutting-edge research and industry findings in artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and large-scale data analytics applied to edge computing and communications.

The collaboration between industry and academia can catalyze innovation and technological advancement. At the EIDA group, we believe in that. Particularly in the rapidly evolving field of Edge Intelligence and Data Analytics. Here are our perspective ideas to foster such collaboration:

Joint Research Projects:

  • Pair academic researchers with industry professionals to work on mutually beneficial research projects.
  • Establish industry-sponsored PhD and postdoctoral positions to focus on specific industry challenges.

Internship and Fellowship Programs:

    • Create internship programs for students to gain practical experience in industry settings.
    • Offer fellowships and internships to our MSc/PhD for short-term industry placements, facilitating knowledge exchange.

Technology Transfer Initiatives:

    • Facilitate the commercialization of academic research through licensing agreements or spin-off startups.
    • Set up a technology incubator within the university to help transition research from lab to market.

Continuing Education and Training:

    • Develop specialized training programs and courses (e.g., MOOC) for industry professionals taught by university experts.
    • Offer certification programs in collaboration with industry partners to upskill the workforce in edge technologies.
    • Set up practice seminars and summer courses for transformative cutting-edge technologies.

Collaborative Laboratories:

    • Establish joint labs on campus with state-of-the-art facilities where industry and academia can collaborate on R&D.
    • Create an innovative environment sponsored by industry partners.

Public-Private Partnerships:

    • Establish partnerships with government agencies to tackle large-scale societal challenges through edge intelligence.
    • Apply for joint grants and funding opportunities that require academia-industry collaboration.

Innovation Ecosystems:

    • Create an ecosystem that includes startups, SMEs, and academia to foster a culture of innovation.
    • Host regular networking events and innovation showcases to strengthen the ecosystem.

Exchange Programs:

    • Set up employee exchange programs where industry professionals can spend time in academic settings to deliver lectures and best practices.
    • Enable cross-pollination of ideas through sabbaticals or secondments between industry and academia.
